All scholarships are open to enrolled students (freshmen excluded) who are pursuing careers in radio and television news. Winners of the Ed Bradley, Carole Simpson and the Lou & Carole Prato Sports Reporting also receive an expenses-paid trip to the RTNDA International Conference. Candidates must be a full-time college student whose career objective is electronic journalism and have at least one full year of college remaining. To receive an award, winners must be officially enrolled in college and be in good standing. Scholarships are paid in semi-annual installments for one year of study.

Alpha Omega Scholarship In Memory Of Peter Agris

The Alpha Omega Council, comprised of leading businesspersons of Hellenic ancestry, honors its late founder by presenting the Peter Agris Memorial Scholarships annually to several young Greek-Americans pursuing studies in the fields of journalism or communications. The scholarship has been given in honor of Peter Agris, founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle, for fifty years the premier Greek-American national English-language weekly newspaper in this country. Mr. Agris was also an Archon of the Greek Orthodox Church and a trustee of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology.

Criteria for candidates include:

  • Being of Greek-American decent
  • Current full-time enrollment as a journalism or communications major at the graduate or undergraduate level at an accredited college or university in the United States
  • Active participation in school, community, church organizations
  • A minimum of a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need

New York Women in Communications Foundation 2010 Scholarship Program

The NYWICI Foundation, in conjunction with NYWICI, annually awards scholarships based on academic excellence, need, and involvement in the field of communications. We award up to $10,000 per scholarship.

Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue or further a career in communications. To be eligible, you must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or better (or the recalculated high school equivalent) and be a permanent resident of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania or be an undergraduate studying at a college or university in the five boroughs of New York City. Graduate students must be members of NYWICI in good standing. An applicant must be majoring or (for high school seniors) declaring a major in a communications-related field, including but not limited to advertising, broadcasting, communications, English, film, journalism, marketing, new media, or public relations.

Dow Jones Newspaper Fund

The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund offers annual summer internships in business reporting, news, multimedia and sports copy editing. DJNF will select up to 100 interns nationally from college sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students. Each program provides free pre-internship seminars on college campuses and weekly salaries starting at $350 for at least 10 weeks. Interns who return to college full-time the following fall receive $1,000 scholarships. Students are assigned to media outlets based on their overall performance, DJNF internship test scores, and the needs or news organizations. Fund representatives will call finalists with internship offers in early December. Click on the application links at left to begin the process. The deadline is Nov. 2.
