Sonoma County Economic Development Fellowship

The Sonoma County Economic Development Fellowship provides recent college graduates with an opportunity to gain practical experience and make substantive contributions in economic research, report development, policy analysis, and project management in the field of county economic development.  Each year the Sonoma County Economic Development Board Fellowship offers multiple Project Coordinator positions. The Project Coordinator position is a one-year paid position that runs from approximately mid July to the end of June. Students from all disciplines with research and report experience are encouraged to apply; applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree by the start of the position.

In addition to research responsibilities, the Project Coordinator will be charged with coordinating advisory groups and taskforces comprised of leaders from local businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and community groups. During the yearlong program, Project Coordinators develop project management skills including budgeting, fundraising and strategic planning; and, they experience economic development first-hand.

California Senate Fellows

Senate Fellows serve as professional Senate staff members, with the Capitol as both workplace and classroom,  and earn graduate units from California State University, Sacramento. Fellows are expected to have a strong interest in public policy and politics but prior legislative experience is not required. The program welcomes applications from anyone who is at least 20 years of age, a graduate of a four-year college or university, and who is authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the program.

California Executive Fellowship Program

California Executive Fellowship Program is sponsored by the California State University, Sacramento, Center for California Studies and the Office of the Governor, to provide an experiential learning opportunity in California state government. Fellows work full-time in high levels of the Executive branch and meet weekly for graduate seminars. This program integrates work experiences with academic and professional development.

California State Assembly Fellowship Program

The California State Assembly Fellowship Program, founded in 1957, is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious legislative fellowship programs. In 1987, the program was renamed the Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program to honor California’s former Assembly Speaker and State Treasurer.  The California State Assembly Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and experience to directly participate in the legislative process. This eleven-month fellowship provides an introduction to public policy formation and adoption in the California Legislature through full-time work as a professional legislative staff member. Fellows also participate in a graduate seminar conducted by California State University, Sacramento. Applicants must be 20 years of age and graduates of a four-year college or university. Applicants are expected to have strong interests in public policy and politics, but prior legislative experience is not required.

Judicial Administration Fellowship Program

The Center for California Studies at Sacramento State, in partnership with the Judicial Council of California, the policymaking body of the California Courts, developed the Judicial Administration Fellowship Program in response to the need to educate and train professionals and leaders who will rise to the judiciary’s growing policy challenges and administrative complexities. Inspired by a passion for justice and a demonstrated interest in government, the law, and public service, fellows dedicate a year to the advancement of justice in California. The role of the fellow is to provide professional staff support to the state courts and the Judicial Council’s Administrative Office of the Courts.
