California Senate Fellows

Senate Fellows serve as professional Senate staff members, with the Capitol as both workplace and classroom,  and earn graduate units from California State University, Sacramento. Fellows are expected to have a strong interest in public policy and politics but prior legislative experience is not required. The program welcomes applications from anyone who is at least 20 years of age, a graduate of a four-year college or university, and who is authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the program.

California Executive Fellowship Program

California Executive Fellowship Program is sponsored by the California State University, Sacramento, Center for California Studies and the Office of the Governor, to provide an experiential learning opportunity in California state government. Fellows work full-time in high levels of the Executive branch and meet weekly for graduate seminars. This program integrates work experiences with academic and professional development.

California State Assembly Fellowship Program

The California State Assembly Fellowship Program, founded in 1957, is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious legislative fellowship programs. In 1987, the program was renamed the Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program to honor California’s former Assembly Speaker and State Treasurer.  The California State Assembly Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and experience to directly participate in the legislative process. This eleven-month fellowship provides an introduction to public policy formation and adoption in the California Legislature through full-time work as a professional legislative staff member. Fellows also participate in a graduate seminar conducted by California State University, Sacramento. Applicants must be 20 years of age and graduates of a four-year college or university. Applicants are expected to have strong interests in public policy and politics, but prior legislative experience is not required.

Judicial Administration Fellowship Program

The Center for California Studies at Sacramento State, in partnership with the Judicial Council of California, the policymaking body of the California Courts, developed the Judicial Administration Fellowship Program in response to the need to educate and train professionals and leaders who will rise to the judiciary’s growing policy challenges and administrative complexities. Inspired by a passion for justice and a demonstrated interest in government, the law, and public service, fellows dedicate a year to the advancement of justice in California. The role of the fellow is to provide professional staff support to the state courts and the Judicial Council’s Administrative Office of the Courts.

East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides Master’s and Doctoral funding for graduate students from Asia (including Russia), the Pacific, and the U.S. to participate in educational and research programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai’i. The award provides substantial funding toward education and living expenses, including tuition and fees, graduate residence hall room costs, health insurance, book allowance, and partial living stipend.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

A stipend of $10,000 is available for graduating seniors for public service commitment anywhere in the world, for one year, immediately following graduation. You may design your own proposal, or work with an established organization.

Direct Marketing Scholarship

The New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) Foundation offers a four part opportunity including an award of $3,000 to be applied to college tuition, for a marketing, advertising, or communications student who will have completed her sophomore or junior year by June (of the application year), and who is seriously interested in a career in direct marketing. The winner will also attend a Nationally Sponsored Seminar on the basics of direct marketing, explore career options through a paid internship, and attend the NEDMA Conference in May 2008, an excellent networking opportunity with key industry leaders and industry professionals.

Summer Research Diversity Fellowships in Law and Social Science

The American Bar Foundation sponsors a program of summer research fellowships to interest undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds in pursuing graduate study in the social sciences. The summer program is designed to introduce students to a research-oriented career in law and social science. Applications will be considered only from sophomores and juniors, that is, students who have completed at least the sophomore year and who have not received a bachelor’s degree by the time the fellowship begins. Recipients work at the ABA offices in Chicago for 35 hours a week for eight weeks and will receive a stipend.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Fellowships in Conservation

The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers annual resident fellowships in conservation to qualified graduate students at the predoctoral level as well as to postdoctoral researchers. Fellowship applications for short-term research for senior Museum conservators are also considered. Projects should relate to the Museum’s collection. The fields of research for conservation candidates include paintings, paper, objects (including sculpture, metalwork, glass, ceramics, furniture, and archaeological objects), textiles, musical instruments, costumes, and scientific research. It is desirable that applicants for the conservation fellowship program should have reached an advanced level of experience or training.

Art History Fellowships/Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers annual resident fellowships in art history to qualified graduate students at the predoctoral level as well as to postdoctoral researchers. Projects should relate to the Museum’s collection. The fields of research for art history candidates include Asian art, arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, antiquities, arms and armor, costumes, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, textiles, and Western art. Some art history fellowships for travel abroad are also available for students whose projects involve firsthand examination of paintings in major European collections.
